Solid State Drive ( SSD )

SSD

SSD is an abbreviation for Solid State Drive and means a drive that uses semiconductor memory, such as NAND flash memory which is also used in USB flash memory.

SSD contains no moving components as opposed to HDD.

Advantages of SSD:

  • Fast Access (OS start-up time is 1.5 times as fast )
  • Resistant to impact and vibration
  • Low power consumption (approx. 20% lower than HDD)
  • High Reliability (twice as long as HDD )
  • Quiet during operation  ( due to no moving parts it is very quiet i.e. 0db vs 25b in HDD )
